Description

Your dog’s most prized sense is their sense of smell and scent detection will put their sniffer to the ultimate test. Dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes can be successful when it comes to searching and detecting a scent. Blind and deaf dogs can do scent work, and it is also great for reactive dogs as it helps build focus and confidence. Our scent detection training program covers everything you need to prepare to compete (if that is your goal) or just have fun with your dog doing searches in/out of your home.

Includes

5-1 hour recorded remote training sessions via Zoom that covers everything from preparing the scent, committing to the scent, container, interior, exterior and vehicle searches.
Access to our online Scent Detection course which includes training videos for each week
Access to a private Facebook group where you access session recordings, get feedback to your questions, and submit training videos between sessions.

Equipment Required

Participants must have the following available for all sessions:
- Wintergreen essential oil
- Q-tips
- Small sealable jar
- Tweezers
- Latex gloves
- Small metal hide container and magnet

Most of these items are typically available in scent kits that can be purchased online, such as at K9 Sports Lines.

It is recommended, but not required, to have a dog harness (not a no-pull harness)

How to Register

Step 1: After registering at training.poochpartners.ca, log in, click on Shop Courses and select Scent Detection.

Step 2: Upon payment processing you will have immediate access to the course from your Dashboard and can begin the pre-reading material and ensure you have all of the required materials before the first session.
